Basic Shotgun Course

If you  know of anyone who would like to get into shotgun sports, or have a friend or family member who needs a little basic instruction, we will be holding an NRA Basic Shotgun Course on April 21/22 at the North Country Sportsman's Club.  This is a ten-hour course over two days, about evenly split between classroom and range.  Students will get at least 50 - 75 clay targets.  All class materials, targets, and ammo is provided.  Loaner shotguns are available if needed.  This is a beginner course, designed to introduce new shooters to shotgun safety, shotgun terminology, and the various shotgun sports.  We will start at 8:00 am on Saturday, and will wrap up around noon on Sunday, the 22nd.  Cost is $65.

Students can sign up online at the NRA site.

President’s Letter 2011

As the dawn of 2012 approaches, Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club Members can reflect positively on the accomplishments of 2011. One of the fundamental goals of our club is to provide members with a safe shooting range in which events are to be held and to promote the safe and proper handling of fire arms. 2011, like most years, has lived up to this promise, providing events for marksman of almost any shooting discipline. This year, our club held regularly occurring military, skeet, archery, pistol and muzzleloader matches. The annual activities, such as the Gun show, Fishing Derby and Hunter Safety Course, have once again been very successful. Let us not forget about the great job done with our 4H shooters and the Youth Skeet league. The range and clubhouse has continued to buzz with current and future sportsman from all walks of life.

For any member that is in a position to volunteer some time, I strongly encourage you to step forward. Just reading through what has gone on during 2011 it is clear that we some individuals that have committed a great deal of time for the benefit of the club and its’ members. Not to mention the duties of the Officers, Club House Committee, Membership Committee, Legislative Committee, Range Schedule Committee and range maintenance. Many of these volunteers will often donate their own money when it comes to gas and supplies. It is easy to forget sometimes, but we must all remember that we are a member owned and operated club. Cleaning up, offering to help when activates are going on, or repairing something broken should be the collective responsibility of all the members that use the facilities. Donations are always welcome and encouraged for those of you that wish to help in that way. Sharing the burdens is the best way to diminish them.

The annual meeting for 2012 is scheduled for 6pm, January 26th at the Hyde Park VFW, in the hall. We will start off with food provided by the Meeting Coordination committee. The board of directors will provide the membership with the suggested slate of officers and the election will be held for 2012. Normal meeting business will follow. The club meetings are still held on the last Thursday of the month except for November and December. During the summer months the meetings are at the Club house in Morrisville. Check the club calendar on our web site at www.lvfgc.org for updated details about the meetings and events. We do try to email notices, so if you have not provided the club with an updated email address I recommend doing so.
